The AUP, as it is now known, was officially established in 1937, and continues to be defined by an evolving response to assist the 146 global member presses through professional education, cooperative services, and public advocacy. Key issues of the mission include copyright policies, access and permissions questions, intellectual freedom and ensuring that the value of nonprofit high-quality scholarly publishing is understood by policy-makers, members of the scholarly communications system, and the public. High standards of editorial quality and peer review are one of the primary ways that AUP members advance the mission. More infos here.
